This tip was totally new to me and it came from Melissa D'Arabian, who was the winner on the show this year. In one of the episodes, she told viewers that once you have used the green portion of your green onions, you should take the white roots and place them in a glass of water so that they will regrow the green portion.
This sounded too good to be true, especially since I enjoy using green onions in my cooking, but hate to buy a new bundle of them every week or two. Can I just tell you that this tip works?! If you walked into my kitchen today, you would see a glass jar on my counter top with green onions growing out of it.
It may not be the most attractive looking thing you've seen when it comes to kitchen decor, but I love that I'm growing my own green onions and saving money in the process!

That's new to me too! I usually chop up the white portion as well as the green, but I will give this a try.
Wow! That's a wonderful tip. I'm definitely going todo this. I hate to buy a whole bunch when all I really need are 2 or 3. I wonder how many times you can cut off the green and re-grow it?
Cool tip! I'm going to try this one ;)
My friend told me about this in August and I have been growing them and using them since. It really does work and saves money. I also don't think it looks that pretty but I was thinking of getting a nicer looking jar to put them in.
I love the idea about the jar! I think I have one up in the cupboard I may try.
What a great idea!
Oh I miss the Food Network soo much. We got rid of our cable awhile back and I think the Food Network is the only cable channel I miss.
How cool is that. Growing onions right in your kitchen!
Tried this and it worked wonderfully! I used all of the white root parts from a bunch, and I now have a whole new bunch of green onions to use and it only took about two weeks! Thanks for the tip!
