Stronger Faith
If we desire our faith to be strengthened, we should not shrink from opportunities where our faith may be tried, and therefore, through trial, be strengthened. ~ George Mueller
When I ponder this quote, I am both frightened and encouraged.
It tells me to embrace circumstances which are out of my control because they teach me to trust the One who controls everything. I realize that, in order for my faith to grow, it has to be tried and tested.
This truth parallels the verses in James that I have been studying. Chapter one, verses three and four say, "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."
My attitude in a trial has much to do with its effectiveness in my life. Am I willing to let God work or, in my humanity, do I try to handle what comes?
As trials - big or small - enter my days, may I have this perspective and be able to thank God for the opportunities He gives to grow my faith.

This is a great quote Tracey! I've never read it before - and your perspective is great!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who is a little frightened and encouraged by such quotes. I'm assuming you got this quote from the book that you read about Mueller, so I'm looking forward to reading it!
ReplyDeleteI needed this word tonight. I am crawling out of my skin waiting to hear if I got the Zumba job: another girl who went Saturday (teaches weights, though) heard she's in yesterday, and I've heard nothing, yet, either way. I know the enemy is trying to bait me with her good news when I haven't yet heard; I need to be thankful for this strengthening of my faith - b/c I *know* I've been in His will during this process - and to remind myself that He has the best worked out for me, wherever, whenever. Patience is so hard for me, so this word really helped tonight!
ReplyDeleteLearning patience is so hard, isn't it?! Praying that the right answer will come for you soon!!
