That's Not Jesus

Recently, another lady and I were helping in the nursery at our church. Our nursery has a speaker system through which we can hear the preacher delivering his sermon, so as we sat at a low table watching the children color, we listened.

When a quiet moment came, my fellow worker pointed to the speaker and remarked to the children, "He's talking about Jesus."  One of the two-year-old little boys scrunched up his face in thought, looked toward the speaker and said, "That's not Jesus!"

Once I finished laughing over his misunderstanding, a more serious thought occurred to me.  While in this case we hadn't heard Jesus speaking, are there times when He might be, but I'm not listening?

Perhaps He's nudging me to speak to someone about Christ or wanting me to see the need of a fellow Christian.  Maybe there's a sin I need to repent of or a problem I need to bring to Him in prayer.

Whatever the case, I want to make sure I'm listening.   While I won't hear his voice over a speaker - even at church! - I need to hear Him when He speaks to my heart.

  1. I'm learning to listen to that still, small voice. Thanks for the reminder.
