2013 Goals Update for January

Since my goals are fresh in my mind during January, I usually feel like I get off to a good start for the year!

Here's how I did in this first month of 2013.

Spiritual
1.  Memorize praise passages:  Luke 1:46-55; Revelation 5:8-14; Psalm 145; I Chronicles 29:10-19.  In January, I memorized Luke 1:46-55.
2.  Begin daily devotions with ten minutes of prayer.  I was consistent with this and it is working well!
3.  Send a note or e-mail of encouragement to someone every week.  I believe I did this every week, but I need to find a way to track it so I can be sure I'm meeting this goal.

Personal
1.  Read through my book list. I read books ten books this month and five of them were on my list.
2.  Publish an e-book.  I have been working on this for fifteen minutes most weekdays and am enjoying seeing a bit of progress.
3.  Try something new each month.  I made three new recipes this month - two versions of Sausage, Kale, and Potato Soup, and a Chicken Cordon Bleu.  My ten-year-old also taught me how to make tassels, a skill she learned in one of her homeschool co-op classes.

Family
1.  Continue monthly daddy/daughter date nights for my husband and each of the girls and quarterly husband/wife date nights for my husband and I.  My husband took both daughters on a date in January and he and I have a night out planned for February.
2.  Plan one fun homeschool day each month.  On one of the nice (unusually warm) January afternoons we've been having, the girls and I took a "camera nature walk."  Each of them had a camera and I asked them to take pictures of things that reflected the season as well as anything in nature that they thought was pretty.  I expected it to be a 15-20 minute walk, but we were out for 40 minutes!  They asked if we could do this again in the spring.
3.  Purchase a special dinner plate for celebrating accomplishments and use it for each family member at least once a month.  I ordered the plate early this week so we should start using it in February.

Physical
1.  Exercise for 20 minutes at least 4 days a week.  In spite of our wacky weather, I was able to do this each week.
2.  Eat 3 servings of fruits and vegetables at least 4 days a week.  I would say I did this at least three of the four weeks this month.  Still need to do a better job of tracking it.
3.  Keep a food journal to track the goal above as well as to note if I'm continuing to limit my sweets to one per day.  Some days I get this done, and some days I don't.

So how are you doing with your goals for 2013?

  2. You're off to a great start! I can't believe you read ten books this month! I have to admit that I'm jealous, but now it looks like you need to add some books to your "to read" list.

    1. Yes, I think I might have to add some more books to my list! I know from experience, though, that I slow down as the year goes along. I've begun The Journals of Jim Elliott and I can tell that it will take a couple of weeks to work through that book. There's a lot to think about as I read.
