Once we got home, the soreness set in. When lunchtime arrived, I tried to tempt her with one of her favorite cold-weather foods, chicken noodle soup. She reluctantly agreed to try it. I decided that a touch of the unconventional was called for, so instead of putting it in a bowl like usual, I got down a pretty blue flowered mug and filled it with just a bit of the hot soup.

It worked. She perked up when she saw the decorative cup, then slowly began taking sips. By the time she was done, she had consumed a whole can!
So often in my urge to move quickly through the routines of the day, I fail to take that extra time to create a more pleasurable moment. For once, I was glad I remembered.
Have you created any special moments lately?
So sweet! I know how painful it is. I had braces and both my children are now in braces. Have her chew on a straw a lot to help get over the pain faster.
ReplyDeleteSherry,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tip! I'd never heard about chewing on a straw to help with the pain. Good thing I've got a stash of them in the car!
Have a wonderful day!
You're such a good mom. I've never had braces, didn't even know it caused so much pain. Poor little thing - how long does the pain last for?
ReplyDeleteThankfully it's not painful to actually get the braces on, but your teeth are sore for several days. She took Motrin a couple of times yesterday and at breakfast this morning, but didn't need it after that. It's still a little uncomfortable for her - just getting used to all that metal in her mouth! - but the orthodontist said it should all feel better by Thursday.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your concern and empathy!
Awww, you are a good Mama! Hope the pain in your daughter's mouth/teeth goes away soon.
