A Heart That's Fixed

Have you ever been afraid of receiving bad news?

I have.

One of those time was near the end of my pregnancy with our youngest daughter. I had a couple of tests done that gave me reason to think something may be wrong with our baby. We weren't strangers to this particular type of fear; our first baby was stillborn due to a birth defect and I'd also had a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy.

In the midst of my worries about what information the next doctor's appointment might hold, God, as always, proved Himself faithful and brought me in my daily Bible reading to the following verse:
He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. ~Psalm 112:7
In talking here about the "good" man, one who reverences the LORD, the Psalmist tells us that we don't have to fear bad news, but rather can rest in the surety that what God allows into our lives can be handled by Him. This verse has given me peace on many occasions and will continue to do so, I am sure, in the years to come.

As for what happened with our youngest daughter? Other than my needing a C-section due to her being a large baby, everything turned out just fine!

  1. Fear is such a motivator, isn't it? Ken preached a sermon a few years ago on fear, and it's always stuck with me! The first words angels say when apearing to people are "be NOT afraid"...and yet they were. Thanks for sharing this that we needn't be afraid - for God is with us!

Congrats on your win :) If you can email me your address that would be wonderful!

  2. Aurie,

What a wonderful thought about the angels' greeting! I think so often our natural reaction is one of fear, yet so often the angels brought wonderful tidings!

  3. I am one of those who has been gripped by fear (to the point it nearly sent me into a nervous breakdown early last year). Fear can really destroy lives. I've had so many years of living in fear, but I think last year's trials were allowed by God to help me work through the fears with Him. I never want to be crippled by fear again, it is truly debilitating.
This is a really good post and a great reminder - especially considering I've been so afraid about the google glitch since yesterday! I really needed to hear this today! Thank you.

  4. Clara,

I'm glad to hear that God has given you the strength and power to work through your fears. I'm sure your testimony to that fact is an encouragement to others.

Hope all is going well in your Google world today! ;)

  6. That is one of those verses that reaches right into my very spirit and washes His peace all over. Yes, I've been afraid before. And this is such a great reminder that God has everything in His capable hands. Thanks Tracey :)

  7. A lot of times we don't even have to go through something traumatic in order to become a better person...the preparation and fear of that experience might be enough to teach us and help us become better people.

So glad to hear your little one turned out just fine, especially after such difficult experiences before hand!
