What Their Wives Said

For this President's Day, I compiled some of my favorite quotes from previous First Ladies of the United States. Who knows but that one of us may be rearing a future First Lady!

At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child, or a parent. ~Barbara Bush

A love of books, of holding a book, turning its pages, looking at its pictures, and living its fascinating stories goes hand-in-hand with a love of learning. ~Laura Bush

Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people - your family, friends, and coworkers, and even strangers you meet along the way. ~Barbara Bush

It is one of my sources of happiness never to desire a knowledge of other people's business. ~Dolley Madison

I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition. ~Martha Washington
