Being the Adult
Sometimes in our home, we encounter ATTITUDE.
Occasionally subtle, often not, I am doing my best at learning how to deal with it.
The easiest way? Respond in kind. Lower myself to a childish level by snapping back, replying with sarcasm, or immediately becoming defensive. Definitely not a Spirit-led or Christ-honoring response...
I am slowly realizing that I have to be the adult. I must rise above the immediate situation and handle it calmly, yet effectively, applying consequences if needed and calling upon the stores of that patience that I referred to yesterday!!
I believe cultivating a proper attitude is vitally important in rearing our children; after all, I was brought up on my dad's philosophy that "attitude is everything." I foresee this being an ongoing struggle - and how I need wisdom to deal with it!
Any tips you can share for those days when ATTITUDE is around?

Hmm....I generally {try} to breathe deeply and not snap a response, even when I really want to. I also ask the Lord to guard my mouth, which helps!
ReplyDeletetips? I keep catching myself often when i'm tired or busy.... I'm failing in being patient so many time when things aren't going the way they should be! So I don't have any tips :-(
ReplyDeleteI still have so many things to learn about patience and showing Grace when things goes wrong!
Me, too!
DeleteHang in there; I know that God is working in you to make you the wonderful mother that He wants you to be!
This is so hard! I've been praying that the Lord will hold my tongue and help me respond in kind rather than with bitterness or anger and it has helped on most days. I do find that when I'm busiest, I tend to snap more, so I'm trying to pull back on my daily to-do list and that seems to help too. Honestly though, I am a work in progress!
