A Mulitude of Mercy

One morning last week, I was sinking in self-pity and guilt.  I knew that my attitude the night before had been critical and judgmental.  Pride had won a victory once again and I felt how unfit I was as a Christian, wife, mother, blogger, - you name it.

I got my Bible out and began reading in Psalms until I came to the following verse:  "....I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy...."  Psalm 5:7

Had I forgotten?  As God's child, if I asked for forgiveness, His mercy would be extended to me.  Yes, I've been here before, time and again, but God's mercy doesn't run out. Psalm 86:5 says He is "plenteous in mercy"  and Psalm 100: 5 says "His mercy is everlasting."

I was also convicted.  If God makes that much mercy available to me, should I not extend that same mercy to others?  It is not my place to judge, but to pray for them, show compassion, and seek to encourage.

How thankful I am for God's "abundant mercy" (I Peter 1:3)!

  1. Tracey, this exact lesson was stirred in my own heart just this very weekend! God used a particular set of events to get my attention on it. I've been meditating on the depth of God's forgiveness and mercy, trying to once again come to an understanding and acceptance of it (when I feel so undeserving of it) and also trying to ask His help to daily do the same unto others. Thank you for these words of encouragement!! What a loving God we serve!

    Blessings,
    Katie

  2. Where would we be be without God's mercy? And why is it so hard to extend our own mercy?
