Travel Lightly

"'If we planned to stay here, then it would make sense to accumulate and enjoy all the earthly comforts,' but 'it just makes sense to travel lightly,' since heaven is our destination." ~ Quote from an Amish man in The Amish by Donald B. Kraybill, Karen M. Johnson-Weiner, and Steven M. Nolt

Possessions, material goods, wealth...things that we acquire in our journey through this life.  They can make our stay here pleasurable; we can enjoy them with our loved ones, even give them to bless others.

But in some measure, they may only weigh us down, narrow our focus to the here and now instead of the ever after.

May we remember our destination.  After all, we are simply pilgrims, just passing through.

Let's travel lightly, my friends.

  1. Your post goes along so well with what I've been reading in Heaven! I don't know about you, but I need constant reminders that this world is not my home; it seems so much more real than Heaven, and yet, when we get there, Earth will pale in comparison. Thanks for the reminder!

  2. Tracey, thanks so much for this very timely reminder! So discouraged this morning with the result of our election for governor - our pro-life, conservative candidate did not win. I needed this reminder that Heaven is my home, not here. Thanks again for sharing!

  3. I love the way the Spirit moves!! Such a fantastic quote, and one that is so true and can be hard to follow. My father was fond of saying that *you can't take it with you* and was very good about spreading around whatever he could part with.

  4. I struggled with holding onto my material "stuff" until God had our family move around so often. It wasn't a pleasant lesson ;-) but so valuable!
