10 Simple Ways to Show Thanks: A Basic Beginning

Source

I want to live daily with a grateful attitude.  However, celebrating a day dedicated to giving thanks during the month of November helps me focus on it even more than usual.

Between now and Thanksgiving, I'll be sharing 10 simple ways to show thanks.  Each day that I post (except for Saturday Salutes), I'll give one way to show thanks - and even talk about how to use the idea with kids, if possible.

Number one is a basic place to start.

Write a thank you note.

Choose a friend, family member, church leader, or business person and hand write a personal note, thanking them for who they are and/or what they do.  (It's inexpensive to pick up packs of different thank you cards at the Dollar Tree so that you always have a stash on hand.)

After you write a thank you note, you may want to have your child(ren) write one as well.  They could thank a teacher, coach, grandparent, or other relative.  For younger children who can't write, you could have them draw a picture and then dictate to you the words they'd like to convey.

Mail the card or hand deliver it.  We'll start off the month showing our appreciation for a person God has put into our lives and who has influenced us in some way.

Let's challenge ourselves to be purposefully thankful this month!

  1. I believe that most of us don't mean to be unthankful, especially to those around us, but we get so bogged down by the details of life that we rush on and forget! Thank you for the practical reminders, Tracey. So good! Chris

  2. Thank you notes are wonderful! And unfortunately they are falling by the wayside. Thanks for the reminder!

  3. I miss writing thank you notes - and getting them! Thanks for the nudge to send some snail mail!

  4. I will admit, in the last 5 or 10 years (since email & text), I've slacked off on handwritten thank-you notes, myself. I used to be hard core about them!!! But now I find myself wanting to take a pic on my phone and then text or email that thanks immediately. I think that instant appreciation & seeing a real pic is awesome, but sometimes I do think a handwritten, mailed note is more appropriate.

  5. Such a good reminder. I used to send thank you notes and cards of encouragement often. In the years of having littles I was busy and distracted and got away from doing that. I need to be more intentional about doing that.
