As a new year begins, many of us think about bettering our health, especially by improving the way we eat.  Clean Slate:  A Cookbook and Guide:  Reset Your Health, Detox Your Body, and Feel Your Best from the editors of Martha Stewart Living seeks to help you do just that.

The book begins by listing 11 "Golden Rules for Eating Clean."  This is followed by a section of basic yet helpful information, such as nutrients to know for optimal health and the best foods with which to stock your pantry.  Next comes pages of recipes broken down into categories such as "Replenish" (breakfast), "Recharge" (vegetables), and "Reenergize" (snacks.)

I really appreciated the pictures that accompany each recipe.  They let you know how the dish will look once it's prepared.  The food photography is beautiful throughout the book.

I will say that the recipes include ingredients that I may not necessarily have on hand - certain grains and produce that I don't cook with frequently.  However, the cooking techniques are explained well and seem easy to follow, so I would feel comfortable experimenting with some of the new-to-me ingredients.  Two recipes I want to try are Coconut Breakfast Pudding and White Bean, Potato and Kale Stew.

All in all, this would be a good reference book to have on hand if you're wanting to explore a new path for clean, healthy eating.

Blogging for Books provided me with a complimentary copy of this book.  All of the opinions expressed in this post are my own and I was not compensated for this review in any other way.
