With two teenage daughters of my own, shopping is a whole new frontier. It's rare that I buy them any clothes or shoes unless they're with me and have tried them on. Each of our girls has their own style and are pretty confident in what they like and what they don't.
Whether it's birthday or Christmas gifts, few of them are a surprise any more. It's most likely something they've picked out ahead of time that I've gone back and bought and wrapped. Yes, even though they might know what they're getting, I still like for them to have presents to unwrap!
However, I've been keeping my eyes out for a few things I can purchase that might be a bit of a surprise. Both daughters have December birthdays and, with Christmas coming up soon, I should be able to take advantage of several of these ideas. Hope you'll find a gift or two that you can use for a teen girl in your life.

1. Simply Southern Tees.
I cannot tell you how many of these t-shirts we have in our house! Both of my girls have short-sleeved and long-sleeved versions, and wear them often. They hold up well and run fairly true-to-size. (I like these home t-shirts, too!)
2. Curling Iron and Wand Set
Don't tell my 15-year-old, but she may be unwrapping this for her birthday. She recently bought a curling wand, but I think she'd like the variety a set like this would give her when she styles her hair.
3. Colorful Cross Body Bag
This is actually on my 13-year-old's Christmas list. It comes in several colors and looks like a great size to carry to ball games, youth group outings, and on shopping trips.
4. Clinique Skin Care Gift Set
If a teen girl you know is into skin care and/or makeup, this set would be a great way to introduce her to some quality products.
5. Cool pens
Most of these would disappear out of the door to our house and off to school! My girls take lots of notes, so this would be fun to use there, as well as to write in their journals at home.
6. Monogram Jewelry
Personalized gifts are always nice. Monogrammed totes or cosmetic bags are pretty but practical gifts as well.
7. Contigo AutoSpout Reusable Water Bottle
My older daughter takes this water bottle to school with her every day, and I think it's helping her drink more water. It's also available in multiple colors. I wouldn't mind having one myself!
8. Infinity Scarf
My girls often wear scarfs to school, and I like that these particular ones come in cute patterns and are lightweight.
8. Bath and Body Works products.
We've been on the Bath and Body Works bandwagon for a long time now! Our girls go through some of these items fairly quickly, so it's always good to restock their supply.
9. Inspirational books.
I've had my girls read several of Elizabeth George's books for girls and young women. After my older daughter turns 16 in December, I'll introduce her to some of Karen Kingsbury's books (especially the Baxter family!) A good teen devotional is another great gift.
10. Nail polish sets.
We have enough nail polish in the girls' hall closet to open a salon, but it seems there are always new colors to be had.
11. Patterned duffel bag.
Whether it's for a sleepover or an away ballgame or to grandmama's house, my girls are always needing a bag to cart all their stuff in This one comes in different patterns and looks like a good size. (I think I want one of these, too!)
12. Comfy patterned pajama pants.
These flannel pajama pants come in a variety of patterns and look really cozy!

I can only imagine how hard it is to buy for teen girls, and I think having four will make it harder since they'll pass everything down. ;) Thanks for the ideas!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I've told you this yet, but I've started buying Christmas gifts early this year: as soon as I think of something one of my children might want, I buy it. I don't have to try to remember it later. :)
Oh, that's right - will there be a time period where all four will be teenagers at the same time?? I can't remember the exact age differences.

I used to do it often, but now I find that my girls tend to change their minds about things, so I've decided to wait until late November/early December to finish up. A lot of what I'll get I can order online, so at least I should be able to mostly avoid the crowds. Can't believe we're actually talking about this - October has gone by so fast!!!
Thinking about it, I guess I won't have four teenage girls at the same time. Hannah is almost ten years younger than Sarah Beth, so she will just be ten when SB turns 20. But I'll have three at a time for several years!

And that exact water bottle--even to the color--is at this moment chilling in our fridge for my 13-year-old to take to school.
