Thirteen TV Shows I Watched as a Kid

Growing up in our family, we four children were pretty limited in the television shows we were allowed to view. I grew up in the seventies, and most of what we watched were re-runs of shows from the 1960s.

Here are thirteen tv shows I remember watching - and I know some of them are still around on TVLand!
  1. Get Smart
  2. Hogan's Heroes
  3. Leave It To Beaver
  4. Andy Griffith
  5. Gilligan's Island
  6. My Three Sons
  7. Green Acres
  8. The Beverly Hillbillies
  9. I Love Lucy
  10. I Dream of Jeanie
  11. Captain Kangaroo
  12. Mr. Ed
  13. The Waltons
Were any of these a favorite of yours? Was there another show that you enjoyed watching growing up? Let us know in the comments section!

  1. We watched 11 out of the 13! Mr Ed was my favorite! My sister's boyfriend (now husband of 26 yrs) was Ed .. and my dad couldn't help but always refer to him as "Mr. Ed" and would break out in song " a horse is a horse .. of course, of course ...." ohhhh ... those were the shows!!

  2. Fun list! I grew up in the 50s and we had no TV until I was 8 ... but I do recognize all of these shows and watched many of them. My dad's favorite was I Dream of Jeannie ;--)

  9. I never liked the Waltons, but I watched all those shows too as a child. Hm, I guess that puts us in the same age range.

  10. I LOVED Captain Kangaroo! I can remember me and my brother sitting on the couch watching it. And we had some book (can't remember what it was) that you followed along with and did activities in for a several episodes.

Too be that young again. *sigh*

  12. On your list, I watched Hogan's Heroes and The Waltons. Other shows I enjoyed: The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Rockford Files, Simon and Simon and, of course, Magnum PI!

  13. I've never really seen any of those, but from what I know about them, I think television when you grew up had a lot more intelligence and real world significance than the drivel that is on now.

  14. I'd say that's a great list because I'm sure it is although I've only seen a couple of episodes from a couple of those. LOL! Happy Thursday!

  22. Yep, I remember all those too! We still watch Andy Griffith today together as a family. Oh, the days of wholesome clean television programs...I miss them. I really despise the fact that I even have to screen the commercials these days! Especially when inappropriate commercials come on in between "family friendly" viewing. Come on...Ugh!

    Thanks for sharing,
    Jennifer

  23. Leave It to Beaver was and still is one of my absolute favorites!! =) I was able to meet Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow a few years ago, and it was really a treat. The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie are also faves.
