Longing for Peace

The question that's been running through my mind lately is one that Saul asked on the road to Damascus. "Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?" (Acts 9:6)

So often we are faced with decisions in which we need wisdom and discernment.  How thankful I am for James 1:5 and its admonition that "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

As I pray and seek that wisdom, I long for the peace of God to fill my heart and to know that He is leading me in a certain direction.  Yet I must ensure that I am willing to do what He directs, not waiting to hear the answer that I want.  When peace comes, I can rest, knowing that He will provide the strength and ability to live in the will He has made known.

What Bible verse or promise helps you when you must make a decision?

  1. This is something I too have wondered at times. Sometimes I feel like there is *something* that I am supposed to be doing and I don't even know what it is - I find this very frustrating. One verse I find helpful when I'm not sure, is: "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:10). It's easy to worry, it's easy to try to rush about... it's much harder to "be still" and wait for God to show us His will and way (or at least, this is very hard for me - I like to be busy, and find being still very difficult!).

I too am very thankful that God is willing to give us wisdom when we lack it and ask Him for it.

  2. Clara,

I can certainly identify with the difficulty of being still! It parallels "waiting on the Lord" when I feel it would be more profitable to be taking action.

  3. I love the verse, 'In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths'. I love this because it's a promise. He WILL direct our paths if we acknowledge Him, if we desire 'Thy will be done' rather than 'my will be done', if we look honestly at God's word because often the answer is right there.
I've known people who say they are looking for God's will to do womething that is unscriptural. That just doesn't make sense.
Anyway, sorry, I'm rambling! Enjoyed your thoughts x

  4. Tracey - praying for wisdom and direction for you! It can be so hard to just wait and see - but oh my! When we do heed His directions the blessings poured upon are just amazing!

I don't have a specific verse, I generally read through some chapters. Isaiah and Psalms have been my go-to books these weeks.

  5. With our move coming up, I've got a lot of decisions to make, and I have no idea what to do about them! My verse for times like this is Matthew 6:34, "Therefore do not worry, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." I'm a worrier by nature, so I need this verse!
