Walk by Faith, Not by Sight

This was the view from our hotel balcony over the weekend.  We were blessed to have a quick family getaway for some rest and relaxation!

While there, I began reading a book I had downloaded to my Kindle, Men of the Bible by D. L. Moody.  He recounts the story, told in Genesis 13, of Abraham and Lot as they separated from each other.  Given first choice of the land, Lot selects the well-watered plain of Sodom.  Moody notes, "He was influenced by what he saw; He walked by sight, instead of faith.  I think that is where a great many Christian people make their mistake - walking by sight instead of by faith."

What a challenge this is to me!  It is easy to make decisions based on what we can see, rather than asking God for His leading, then moving in obedience and trusting Him with the outcome.  While Lot certainly seemed to have made the better choice in the world's eyes, we now know how the story ends and would certainly want to follow in Abraham's footsteps.

May I not follow Lot's example, but learn to walk by faith!

    1. We were in Myrtle Beach, SC, and the warm sun on Saturday was wonderful! Sunday was quite chilly, though; our nine-year-old and I braved the cold and bundled up in coats to take a morning walk on the beach.

  2. Carnal Lot! I think of him often when I find myself with one foot in the world...drifting. Your post encouraged me this morning and I'm going to add this book to my reading list.

Fun to get away for the weekend!
