My Word for 2014

Happy 2014!

Since I'm a list-maker/planner/goal-setter by nature, this time of year excites me!  I'll be sharing my goals for 2014 on Friday and almost have my 2014 reading list ready to go as well.

However, as I've been making plans for the coming months, I knew I wanted to have a distinct spiritual focus for the year.  It centers on one word.

Trust.

All those qualities that I mentioned about myself above - I think I embrace them because I like being in control.  I want to know weeks - even better, months - in advance how things are going to play out.

Yet I know of decisions that will need to be made this year in which we will need definite direction from God.  Which reminds me that I'm not really in control; He is.

In the midst of what 2014 may hold, I want to trust God.

My other options?  I would say worry or fret.  Is that how I want to live?  No.

I want peace - and that only comes as I trust God.  I must take it all to Him in prayer and ask for clear and direct guidance. I then need to be sensitive to how He leads - and be willing to obey, regardless.

I'm going to begin the year by studying all the Bible verses I can find on trust.  During my morning devotions, I'll be writing down the lessons I can learn from those passages.

As the familiar hymn says,

Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

May I find joy and happiness - no matter the circumstances - as I seek to trust God more in 2014.

  1. Did you know that Aurie picked the same word for 2014? How neat!

I tend to worry and fret, too, so I understand where you're coming from, and I'll be praying for wisdom for these decisions that you are making this year.

    1. Yes - I read Aurie's blog earlier this morning and thought it was so exciting that we both chose the same word!

I really appreciate your prayers for upcoming decisions. It will be several months before we have to actually decide on these things, but since I know they're coming, I'm already "concerned" about doing what's best for our family.

Hoping that your 2014 is getting off to a good start! We're having a nice, low-key day at home. :)
