11 Books I Read in January

January is a fairly quiet month at our house, so it's usually a great month for reading.  I was able to finish 11 books in January.

Here are the three that I read from my 2014 reading list.
  • The Purpose and Power of Love and Marriage by Myles Munroe
  • Believing God by Beth Moore
  • The Life and Diary of David Brainerd.  I admit to just plowing through the first half of this book. However, as I moved towards the end of his short life, I was truly inspired by his devotion to God and his desire to glorify God through his life, his sufferings - especially physical illness - and his death.

Here are the other books I read last month.
  • Songs of Christmas by Katherine Spencer (a fiction read from the Cape Light Series)
  • A Confident Heart:  How to Stop Doubting Yourself and Live in the Security of God's Promises by Renee Swope
  • One Thousand Gifts:  A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are by Ann Voskamp  (This was  a re-read.  I read chapters 1-10, which are a great reminder of how to practice gratitude in everyday living.  However, I typically skip the last chapter; I don't quite agree with its subject matter.)
  • Bread and Wine:  A Love Letter to Life Around the Table by Shauna Niequist.  This book was a collection of essays about gathering family, friends, and guests around your table to share food and fellowship.  Many of the chapters included recipes that were tied to the personal stories the author shared.
  •  The Surprising Secrets of Highly Happy Marriages:  The Little Things that Make a Big Difference by Shaunti Feldhahn.  You can read my full review of the book here.
  • Graceful:  Letting Go of Your Try-Hard Life by Emily P. Freeman
  • Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit by Teri Maxwell.  This was a relatively short book, but I found the wise principles shared very helpful.  Much of the book would apply to parenting in general - not just homeschooling.  I plan to re-read this book in the future to remind myself of ideas I need to apply in my own life.
  • The Daniel Plan:  40 Days to a Healthier Life by Rick Warren, Daniel Amen, and Mark Hyman
I finished reading The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle to my 11-year-old.

What have you been reading lately?

  1. You read a lot last month, and it looks like they were good books. I'm really curious about that last chapter of Voskamp's book, so I can't wait to read it. And I think I'm going to add the book by Feldhahn to my "to read" list.

But what did you think of the Daniel Plan? I've heard conflicting views about it.

    1. I liked the premise of The Daniel Plan book; basically, it talked about maintaining a healthy balance in five areas - faith, food, fitness, focus, and friends. Not a lot of new information, but it was a reminder to keep working on being "healthy" in each of those areas.

  2. What a great list of books! I think I've only read one of them and Bread and Wine is on my reading list for this year. In January I read The Purity Principle by Randy Alcorn, Pride and Prejudice, and Primal by Mark Batterson (and I loved this one!)

  4. I always love seeing what you read and I'm so impressed by how much you can read in a month. I recently finished Let Hope In by Pete Wilson. I am currently reading 10 Gifts of Wisdom by Sally Clarkson and my husband and I are reading The Go-Giver together.
