I read some really helpful books this month!
Here are those I read that were on my 2014 reading list.
- The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life by Hannah Whitall Smith
- Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Crystal's writing is always practical and helpful. Even though I'd heard much of this material before, I was motivated to examine how I can best live life fully and on purpose.
- Balancing It All by Candace Cameron Bure
- Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats by Sally Fallon with Mary Enig, Ph.D. This book was an overload of information about healthy eating and included hosts of recipes made from whole foods. It was a bit out of my cooking comfort zone, but an encouragement to keep making wise choices with food.
Here are the other books I read.
- Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average, and Do Work That Matters by Jon Acuff. I read this book in two days! Acuff challenges readers to find their "awesome" and gives great guidance for focusing on what you love to do and steps you can take to reach your potential. Applies equally well to career, personal, and family goals.
- Elementary, My Dear Watson by Mindy Starns Clark. This was my fiction read for the business-related trip I took with my husband to Lake Oconee.
- Hands Free Mama by Rachel Macy Stafford. The overly-long subtitle of this book is "A Guide to Putting Down the Phone, Burning the To-Do List, and Letting Go of Perfection to Grasp What Really Matters." It sums up exactly what the book is about.
- The Prayer of the Lord by R. C. Sproul
- The Southern Bite Cookbook by Stacey Little. There are several recipes in this cookbook that I want to try; they're simple to make, but sound very tasty!
The girls are loving our current read-aloud, David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. It's one of my favorite classics so I'm enjoying sharing it with them.
What have you been reading lately?
Mmmmm, I even just like the sound of "The Southern Bite Cookbook"!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been a fan of Candace Cameron Bure for a long time, but I've never read anything of hers other than her blog.
You're on a cookbook kick, aren't you? :) What is the Watson book about? Sherlock Holmes? It sounds intriguing, as does the Acuff book. I think I'll see if my library has it. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteNo, the Watson book doesn't have anything to do with Sherlock Holmes - just a Christian fiction mystery - but I've read several of these by Mindy Starns Clark and they've been pretty entertaining.
DeleteYes, I believe I have been on a cookbook kick lately! Maybe it's because my husband and I have been trying to eat more healthy foods lately and all those desserts and creamy casseroles are calling my name!! :)
