Family traditions, especially those that are tied to holidays, are dear to my heart.
One idea that I wish I'd implemented when my girls were younger is having a designated set of books to read with them each holiday. Bringing those books out for just a few weeks would be a special treat and would be an event we could look forward to each year.
I was delighted to receive three books - two of them Easter titles - from Zonderkidz for the Preschool to Age 7 age group to review on my blog.
1. 101 Bible Stories from Creation to Revelation by Dan Andreasen. This hardcover book would be a great read-aloud for younger children, or would work well for independent readers to read alone. Summaries of many of the well-known stories of the Bible are included. Most of them are about a page in length and are accompanied by nice illustrations. (A few direct quotes from the NIV version of the Bible are included.)
2. The Berenstain Bears Keep the Faith by Mike Berenstain. Brother and Sister Bear encounter Ferdy Factual, who doesn't believe in God. Their parents, along with Preacher Brown, teach them what faith is. While I felt that the presentation of faith could have been a bit clearer, I do think this book would be a good starting point for a discussion with your children about their faith and what it is based on.
3. The Legend of the Easter Egg by Lori Walburg. This hardcover book contains a sweet story with beautiful illustrations. A little boy's sister gets sick with scarlet fever and, while he stays with family friends, he learns how Easter eggs relate to the resurrection story. The pictures alone make this one of those keepsake books that I would enjoy reading to a preschooler. (Just a note: wine is referred to in relation to The Lord's Supper.)
I get to giveaway a set of these three books to one reader! To enter, leave a comment telling me an Easter tradition you enjoy with your family.
The giveaway will end on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 8:00 P.M. EST. The winner will be selected by random.org and will have seventy-two
hours to respond to my e-mail notification with their contact
information or risk forfeiting their prize. Books will be shipped from Zonderkidz directly to the giveaway winner. U.S. addresses only, please.
I was provided with complimentary copies of these books by Zonderkidz. All of the opinions expressed in this post are my own and
I was not compensated for this review in any other way.
Our internet has been spotty for the last few days, so I haven't been able to read and comment on my favorite blogs.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love having books like these put away although for some reason the Easter books didn't get put up after Easter last year. We love to dye Easter eggs, but that's about all we do for Easter.
We made the divinity cookies that represent the tomb. They are baked the night before and when you open the oven in the morning the middles are hollow. We also have breakfast with our church family.
ReplyDeleteEvery year we go to the city's Easter Eggstravaganza. My kids enjoy it and it's safe family fun.
ReplyDeleteI found you from Nikki's blog! These look like wonderful books!
ReplyDeleteOur kiddo likes to use his egg carton full of plastic eggs, and tell us the story through the objects inside. The last one is empty to show the empty tomb.
Thanks for the chance to win!
Super fun! We enjoy coloring eggs - the girls are already asking when we can start making the eggs *pretty* :)
ReplyDeleteBesides going to church, my kids have always loved our tradition of dyeing East Eggs.
