She's reading one non-fiction book a week and writing a brief report on what she learns from the book. She completed the first one last week and I have to say that I was impressed with what she wrote!
Here's a list of the seven books she'll be reading this summer.
1. Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris. I received this book as part of a blogger review program a couple of years ago and thought it gave a great challenge to teenagers to live boldly for the Lord. I may actually have her read it every summer to keep the content fresh in her mind.
2. 50 Things Every Young Lady Should Know by Kay West. This book covers etiquette and manners, respectful behavior, proper conduct in relationships, and much more. Even though I've tried to teach our girls many of these principles, this book brings them together in an interesting format.
3. Kisses from Katie by Katie J. Davis. An inspiring story of God's call on one young woman's life, this story of sacrificial living touched me, and I hope it does the same for my daughter.
4. Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey. My husband and I have listened to Dave Ramsey since shortly after we got married. Our girls often hear his radio program, so they already have a basic understanding of the financial principles he teaches.
5. A Young Woman's Call to Prayer by Elizabeth George This book looks like it's right on her level and should be an encouragement to her in her prayer life.
6. Heaven for Kids by Randy Alcorn. I so enjoyed Alcorn's book Heaven and I hope that this version for young people will excite her about our eternal home as well.
7. Fanny J. Crosby: An Autobiography. One of my brothers recommended this book and, since my daughter often plays hymns on the piano, I think it will be good for her to learn more about the life of this great hymn writer.
I'm continually looking for good reading material for my 13 and 11-year-old daughters, so if you have any suggestions - fiction or non-fiction - I'd love to hear about them!

ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea, I must remember to do this for my daughter as she grows up! I can hardly believe your eldest is already 13 years old, and mine is 10 - entering those tween years. They grow up so incredibly fast. x
