9 Books I Read in May

May was a good month for reading!  I found some new favorites in non-fiction and enjoyed different titles from some favorite fiction authors.

Here are the books I read that are on my 2014 reading list.

  • Growing Up Duggar by Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger Duggar.  What an interesting read this was!  It was encouraging to read the girls' views about the principles their parents have impressed on their hearts as they've grown up.  I certainly picked up some pointers myself!  The focus of the book is relationships; I especially enjoyed the chapters on your relationship with yourself and your relationship with your parents.  Even though my 13-year-old read it, I will probably buy it (I got this copy from the library) and have my girls read it again in the coming years.  I think it will encourage them to keep a Godly focus and see a good example of girls who are seeking to live for the Lord.
  • Harbor of the Heart by Katherine Spencer.  This is the latest in the Angel Island series - one of my favorite fiction series!
  • Just Friends by Mike Ray and Cary Schmidt.  I read this to preview it for my daughters and found it to be a great book for teenagers on dealing with boy/girl relationships.  I don't think my 13-year-old is quite ready for this, but I will probably have her read it next summer when she's 14.
  • The Antelope in the Living Room:  The Real Story of Two People Sharing One Life by Melanie Shankle.  If you like Melanie's blog, Big Mama, you'll certainly enjoy her latest book.

The following were other books I read that were not on my reading list.

  • Dying to Read by Lorena McCourtney  This was a quick, entertaining fiction read that I took on our cruise.
  • Keeping Our Children's Hearts by Steven and Teri Maxwell
  • Directed Verdict by Randy Singer.  I got this Christian legal fiction book from the library for my husband to read on our cruise.  It sounded good - and he liked it - so I read it, too.
  • The Choice is Yours by Terrie Chappell
  • Love and Respect in the Family by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

I finished reading David Copperfield by Charles Dickens aloud to my girls last month and was thrilled with how much they enjoyed it!  They were so interested in the story and all of its memorable characters, which made it fun to share with them, since it's one of my favorite classics.

What have you been reading lately?
