So here's what we (a.k.a. my husband :) did last weekend.
We upgraded from a queen-sized to a king-sized mattress several months ago. I knew that I wanted a fabric-covered headboard and we decided that our cheapest option was to make it ourselves. Last week, I finally went shopping for the fabric.
On Saturday, my husband cut a piece of plywood into the shape I wanted, then used spray adhesive to attach 1 1/2 inch foam that we'd cut to the same shape. We then wrapped it with quilt batting, stapling it to the back of the plywood, and followed that by stapling the fabric tightly over it. He attached it to the wall with a metal cleat.
This was a quick and inexpensive project! We'd sold our queen-sized headboard and footboard on Craigslist for $130 and I'd set that money aside to go toward this project. Thanks to a 40% off coupon from Joann's, I was able to get a good deal on the upholstery fabric, and the whole project only cost $160, so only $30 out-of-pocket.
Have you tackled any DIY projects lately?
Tracey, this is beautiful! The 2 of you did a great job! Chris
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteYou (aka your husband ;) did a great job! And you picked out beautiful fabric. And I'm sure you love looking at it because you did all the work yourself!
ReplyDeleteWow, it looks fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't done much of DIY lately, although as I type this, my husband and brother-in-law are doing some brickwork on our house - we've closed in our garage (which is part of the house) to make it into an extra room or two instead of being a garage. Next up: painting, installing a new wall, etc!
Super cute!! I've always wanted to make one, but we don't have a need for one right now - perhaps by the time S is ready for a big boy bed :) Great job!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE!!! Looks GREAT!!! We did this for Annelise's full bed 6 or 7 years ago, and I think we really need to refresh next year when we move.
