Book Review: Supermarket Healthy by Melissa D'Arabian

After watching Melissa D'Arabian win The Next Food Network Star several years ago, I read and enjoyed Melissa's first cook book Ten Dollar Dinners.  When I saw that she had a second cookbook out, I was excited to see what new recipes she was sharing.

The theme of Supermarket Healthy:  Recipes and Know-How for Eating Well Without Spending a Lot  is to help money-conscious shoppers take healthy ingredients found at their local grocery store and use them to prepare simple and delicious meals.

The book begins with general nutritional help and tips for making healthy choices when buying your food at the grocery store.  The recipes that follow are broken down into 11 chapters  Most of these recipes involve basic preparation skills and include easy-to-find ingredients.

One of my favorite features in this book are the sections where Melissa breaks down a technique for a particular recipe and shows how you can change it up with different ingredients - almost a "play-by-play" of a variety of ways to prepare and serve the dish.

As with the last cookbook I reviewed, the food photographs are beautiful  Some of the recipes I'd like to try are White Bean and Roasted Red Pepper Soup and Chocolate Peanut Butter Dip with Apples.

Just like in her first book, Melissa's personality is evident in these pages.  She seems to take seriously her task of providing healthy meals for her husband and four daughters.

Blogging for Books provided me with a complimentary copy of this book.  All of the opinions expressed in this post are my own and I was not compensated for this review in any other way.
