The foundation of our Christian parenting is recognizing that our children come from God and ultimately belong to Him.
When I looked up the definition of the word "heritage," I found that the archaic meaning is "a special or individual possession; an allotted portion."
I love to think on that and realize that God has chosen to place our two daughters in our particular family. He has united the four of us to serve and bring glory to Him together. We encourage, support, correct, and love one another through all the ups and downs of life.
Children are a reward of God's grace, an undeserved blessing. We don't earn them, but simply receive them as a gift from God.
When we live in the truth that our children are a sacred trust from the Lord, we see ourselves as stewards of a great treasure. How vital it is that we ask God for wisdom in how to train them and that we use His Word as our guidebook.
There may be times when I want to put my agenda in place in their lives, yet I may need to step back and let the Lord lead them. At other times, I feel like my worrying will provide the protection over them that only God can supply. I may fear for their safety, be angry over their disobedience, feel sadness when they experience pain, and know love for them that seeps into the very depths of my soul.
My life is richer because of the children God has given me. May I honor the trust He has placed in me by guiding and directing them in the way He would have for them to go.
While I have not had the blessing of raising my own children, I so enjoy watching the little ones in our family and our church families grow and mature. I pray their parents realize, as you do Tracey, that these little ones are a special gift from the Lord. I know their kindnesses shown to me are truly a blessing! Thank you for sharing your heart. ReplyDeleteThroughout these parenting years, my husband and I have been blessed by several singles or families who did not have children of their own, yet have interacted with and prayed for our children. That is a wonderful testimony and ministry to parents and their children and I know that you have been blessing many there over the years in the same way!!

ReplyDeleteSometimes, it's hard to trust God with out children, and I'm sure it gets harder as they get older and get more freedom. But He does know what's best. I love the reminder that He put each of my children in my home on purpose; there is no accident with God.
