Spic and Span

The kitchen has been called the heart of the home. It is certainly the most trafficked room in our house.

Our Project: Simplify assignment this week was to clean out and organize the pantry, refrigerator, and other areas of the kitchen.

I admit to keeping my pantry fairly organized at all times. I like to easily see what I have on hand so that I don't buy duplicate items at the grocery store. Nonetheless, it can always use a bit of straightening up.

Before.
After.
Once in awhile, my refrigerator can get out of hand, but it's more often the freezer that's a mess. I will quickly toss in a few bags of frozen vegetables or pull out a package of ground venison, letting things tumble where they may. Once again, a little organization helped out.

Before.
After.
Rearranging this one particular cabinet had been on my agenda for awhile. It holds the mixing bowls and baking dishes that I use most frequently. I was constantly having to lift up a whole stack of items to get to the one that I wanted. I'm hoping that removing some of the lesser-used dishes will help make this space more effective.

Before.

After.

There aren't drastic changes in these before and after pictures, but I am hoping that getting these spaces a little more organized will inspire me to keep making small changes in other parts of the house.

What section of your kitchen tends to get the most cluttered?

  2. Nice! I love organizing....just tend to procrastinate! I'm working on that though as you know. ;) The worst spot in my kitchen....the tupperware/plastic bowls and lids! I dread to even open that cabinet for fear of being pummeled by a mountain of plastic. I guess it's time to take care of that. :)

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Jennifer,

I just recently tossed some old plastic food storage bowls and lids, keeping only the best ones. I have the bowls stacked together and have the lids stored in a rack. (Don't remember where I got the rack - it's almost like a drying rack for plates, but it keeps the lids nicely organized.) I want to go to more glass storage containers, but will have to do that gradually due to the cost.

  4. Awesome job! Organizing feels so good. :)

And are those Racheal Rays baking dishes I see?? I want those so bad! Do you like them?

    Have a fabulous weekend

  5. Mary,

Yes, those are Rachael Ray baking dishes! I actually won them in a CSN stores blog giveaway.

I do like them, but I forget to use them! I'm so used to baking certain meals in the same pans every time, that I overlook those lovely, bright blue dishes! (Hard to believe, I know!) I have used the larger one several times, though; I must not cook small portions often because I rarely use the smaller one.

Hope you have a great weekend as well!

  6. I can definitely see the difference! I am the designated kitchen organizer at my house. My mom always calls for me to make things livable again. And I actually enjoy doing it. Organizing feels good!

  7. I love organizing and getting rid of things I don't need. But I would say that the area in my kitchen that needs the most work is the utensil drawer. Everything that I don't know what to do with gets thrown in this drawer and I'm pretty sure there are things in there that have never been used. I don't love organizing these spaces - too much work!

  8. You did a good job! Looks good. I hate when things get messy and unorganized! I cleaned out my fridge last week and I'm ashamed to say I had to throw away some things that had expired before I got to use them.

  9. As well as an upright freezer, we also have a chest freezer. Oh boy, things can really get messy in there! I find things I'd totally forgotten about when I give it a good tidy (and then of course, I vow that I'll never allow that to happen again)!

  10. Wow, your spaces look SO organised!!

I too have a chest freezer, and those can be REALLY hard to keep neat and tidy, and it's easy to forget what's in them too, because what's inside can't be seen so readily.
