Hideout

It's a secret place where only a select few are allowed to enter.

In the vacant lot next to our house, shielded from view by a small cluster of trees, is the hideout where our daughters have been playing for several weeks.

They climb in and out, using designated passwords and huddling up for important meetings.  Inspired by the Swiss Family Robinson, they added traps for potential intruders.  They've even planted a garden of sorts.

Spending time outdoors, digging in the dirt, using their imaginations - all of these are part of this wonderful season of being a kid!

So, did you have a secret hideout as a child?  Where was it?

  1. How fun! I did!! There was a grove of pine trees and my brother and I would climb the trees and sit for hours. Ah - those days :)

  2. I remember exploring like this with my sister and neighbor friends. We used to play behind a shed. It was shady back there. It was just in our backyard but it felt like we were in a far away place. So mysterious! We would dance and pretend there was an audience of thousands cheering for us. FUN!

  3. Melissa,

My brother and I used to put on "plays" in my neighbor's backyard. She had a wooden platform that we used as a stage. We would invite our parents to come watch - after they made lemonade and popcorn so we and our "audience" could have snacks! Such fun memories!

  4. What fun! :) We didn't really have somewhere to hide like that, but there was a room built onto the back of our house that was accessed only externally, which had it's own bathroom, and which our parents gave us as our own space. We could go there and spend many hours without seeing either of our parents!
We also used to love playing "circus" or "roads" and other fun games in the yard with our bikes (we did quite a few daring things on those bikes!)... There was also a space between my father's workshop/garage and the back fence and we used to hide down there to spy on our neighbours through the cracks in the fence! (tut, tut!!) It was all childish fun and definitely created some fantastic memories!

  5. How cute! It looks fabulous! I lived in an apartment so no place for a hideout there. I would set up a small tent and pretend in there though... my small fortress. I'd lay down carpet and all.

It kind of got hot though.
