This Is My Prayer

One of the most powerful things I can do for my children is to lift them up in prayer.  Having recently re-read Stormie O'Martian's  The Power of a Praying ParentI wrote out individual prayer lists for each of our daughters.

Their lists are a bit different.  Not only do they have unique personalities, but each one also faces specific struggles at certain ages. However, I combined my requests into one list here.  In some instances, I used wording similar to that suggested in Stormie's book.

1. May she be drawn to good friends and away from harmful ones; may those relationships nurture her as well as the other person.

2. Create within her a desire to spend time alone with God.

3. Guide her steps.

4. Reveal her gifts and talents that they might be developed and used for His honor and glory.

5.  Protect her innocence.  Keep her pure in mind and body.

6. Should marriage be in His will, lead her to a Christian mate who is dedicated to serving God.

7. Develop a loving relationship between she and her sister.

8. Allow her to see herself as beautiful in the eyes of God, not judging herself by the beauty standards of the world.

9.  Keep her heart tender and make her uncomfortable with sin.  May all lies be exposed and repentance sought.

10.  Let her never compromise her walk with God for the acceptance of others.

I serve a prayer-hearing and prayer-answering God.  May God in His mercy, wisdom and grace grant these requests as I bring them before Him with a humble heart, seeking to do all I can to lead our daughters in a life of obedience to Him.

  5. This is an excellent list, Tracey. I don't have a list of things to pray for my children like this - I think I will start, though, it's a great idea so prayer items don't get forgotten. My current prayer "list" is in my head and my memory isn't the world's best... So I really love this idea!! Thank you for sharing. :)

  6. Oh yes, praying for our children is so important. I am convicted by your post. I used to diligently pray by topic like this for our children (when we had fewer), and I would like to start that again. I think it's so important!

    God bless,
    Mrs. Q

  7. Clara,

Ugh - my memory seems very untrustworthy these days!! I guess writing these items down has just helped me focus more easily on some key areas in which I want to pray for our children. I also want to re-read The Power of a Praying Wife and jot down some more detailed requests for my husband.

  8. Tracey, there's another good idea - to write another list of things to pray for our husband!
I think our memories are bad because there's just too much going on in the world these days - it's almost like brain/sensory overload some days!!
