Much of the morning was spent watching workers cut down a very large pine tree in a neighboring lot.
We all admired the confidence of one particular man who worked his way high up into the tree, cutting limbs with his chainsaw as he went, then pausing to talk on his cell phone!
Even unplanned events can be used to encourage our children's natural curiosity and stimulate their love of learning!
How fantastic! My girls would LOVE to have seen that - Sophis is fascinated with cranes and big trucks right now :)

It is amazing how simple it is to take everyday life and make it a learning experience. Any chance you could get a cross section of that tree? You could do a unit study on conifers (and the different types) and discuss the tree parts, rings, bark, roots and crown.
