Pine Tree Education

Yesterday I was reminded that no matter how we choose to school our children, learning can take place anywhere.

Much of the morning was spent watching workers cut down a very large pine tree in a neighboring lot.

We all admired the confidence of one particular man who worked his way high up into the tree, cutting limbs with his chainsaw as he went, then pausing to talk on his cell phone!

Even unplanned events can be used to encourage our children's natural curiosity and stimulate their love of learning!

  1. How fantastic! My girls would LOVE to have seen that - Sophis is fascinated with cranes and big trucks right now :)

  2. You're right, Tracey. Learning can take place anywhere - not just the confines of a classroom. Great pics! (My kids would have loved to watch this!) Thanks for sharing!

  3. It is amazing how simple it is to take everyday life and make it a learning experience. Any chance you could get a cross section of that tree? You could do a unit study on conifers (and the different types) and discuss the tree parts, rings, bark, roots and crown.

I'm always in awe when watching the tree service people work.

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. Jennifer,

That unit study is a great idea! We'll have to see what we can do.
