In January, we chose to find ways each week to share our faith. Here's what we were able to do.
- Made brownies, which we put in a basket and delivered to a family that moved in down the street. We gave them a tract with information about our church and invited them to visit.
- Left a gospel tract at a bookstore and at a mall in a place where people could easily find and read it.
- As part of a church-wide visitation program, we delivered "welcome" baskets (filled with pre-wrapped crackers, cookies, candy, etc., along with information about our church) to homes of people who have recently moved into the area.
- Our nine-year-old invited several neighbors to a special Friends and Neighbors service we had at our church on the 29th.
As we were leaving a small homeschool activity a couple of weeks ago, I asked our daughters if they had made any new friends or found a way to be helpful. Our nine-year-old told how she had helped another girl, then said, "I just did it, and didn't even really think about how I was being kind." That, I told her, is our goal - that helping others will become such a natural part of who we are that we do it without even thinking.
We'll be choosing another project for February, so watch for another update at the end of next month!
That's great Tracey! It's so hard to out His glory first, isn't it? I was struggling with that this weekend too. How wonderful that your daughters are getting it, and living His messages out :)
ReplyDelete"I just did it, and didn't even really think about how I was being kind." - That *IS* the ultimate goal! To live like Christ innately w/o having to work so hard at it! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice post. It's actually sometimes work to do the right thing for the right reasons. The best example I've learned is honoring our mother and father. For me it's easy and I'm constantly told, you need to do it, not because you want to and not because it's easy but because it's what gd wants you to do. When you think of it that way, it takes on a whole new meaning.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, Tracey!! :) What great ideas to share your faith, not only with your daughters by living out a life of service before and with them, but also to others around you. I admit that the acts of service you mentioned are sometimes out of my comfort zone when I do things of this nature, but I know that I am doing God's will, and that's the most important thing! Overcoming my fear of "what others will think" shrinks when I put the Christ-like mind as my focus. But, oh how my flesh tries to scare me sometimes! I appreciate your daughter's answer to you so much ~ yes...what insight! :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, I think all of your posts on this subject of "others" have been very humbly written and definitely glorifying to God. You have encouraged me indeed!
Have a lovely week ahead! Thanks for being a blessing!
Katie
Funny....I think I had two thoughts going in the same sentence. My "overcoming" doesn't shrink but my "fear" does. :) I really need to re-read my replies before publishing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to focus on! I'm actually currently writing a post with ideas for random acts of kindness. I'm trying to focus on "living love" in February. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea - living love in February! I'd enjoy seeing the ideas you come up with.
DeleteI feel challenged by this post to try to do more for others. Of course, what I can do is different than you because I'm in a different season, but I need to think more about how I can help others and encourage my children to do likewise. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely - and a challenge to remind us to be more like Christ. Sometimes children say the most profound things, don't they?!
