Read-Alouds for 2012

We are blessed in that both of our daughters enjoy reading.  While they read a host of books on their own, we also have read-aloud times at lunch and before bed.  I try to choose books slightly above their current reading level so that they are introduced to unfamiliar words or settings while I am available to answer questions or make explanations.

Our list of books for bedtime reading during 2012 begins with a book we didn't finish on our 2011 list.

1.  To Have and to Hold:  A Tale of Intrigue and Adventure by Mary Johnston

2.  Miracles on Maple Hill by Virginia Sorensen

3.  Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan

4.  What Katy Did by Susan Coolidge

5.  Rascal by Sterling North

6.  Understood Betsy by Dorothy Canfield Fisher

7.  Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink

8.  Beautiful Girlhood by Mabel Hale

Our lunchtime reading is from a Christian biography. We are currently finishing Mary Slessor: Heroine of Calabar and plan to follow that with John Newton: Letters of a Slave Trader Freed by God's Grace and Anne Bradstreet.
