Here's the Plan

I'm wrapping up this first week of 2012 by sharing some of my goals for the year.  While I've done this indirectly through my reading and project lists, I haven't yet given the overall picture.

I chose the following areas in which to set goals:  spiritual, physical, intellectual, financial, family, homeschooling, blogging.  I decided to have three goals per area.

Spiritual
1.  Memorize "one another" passages.  (I plan to post more on these later.)
2.  Complete our "others" projects.
3.  Highlight one prayer request per week and pray for it throughout the day for seven days.

Physical
1.  Reach goal weight.
2.  Exercise for twenty minutes at least four days a week.
3.  Eat only one sweet/baked good per day.  (This one may kill me...)

Intellectual
1.  Read through my book list.
2.  Study my camera guide and learn how to take better photos.
3.  Write an e-book.  (Numbers two and three are carried over from 2011.  Oops...)

Family
1.  Visit five new restaurants this year.
2.  Plan at least one "fun" homeschool day each month.
3.  Find a volunteer opportunity we can do as a family.

While I won't give specifics, our financial goals involve paying down the balance on our house, saving money to replace my car, and saving cash for the family trips we want to take this year.  As for homeschooling goals, I plan to write about those at a later date.

So, did you set goals for the year?  How's it going so far?

  2. Wonderful list of goals, Tracey! I have set some goals and broke them down by month in many of the same categories you have. Maybe I'll get to a post on them, we'll see. ;)

Would love to hear more about the verses you are memorizing! Also, I hope you post on the new restaurants, service projects, and/or fun homeschool days you plan! My son was just asking me if we could have a "Pioneer/Old West Day" soon, and I thought that was a fabulous idea! :)

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Katie,

My girls have requested a "spirit week," similar to what they had when they were in school. They came up with a list of ideas and voted on their favorites. Those included a backwards day (wear clothes backwards, do school subjects in reverse order, etc.), pajama day, favorite color day (wear that color clothes, eat those color foods, etc.), and a Pilgrim & Indian day. We will also do some themed activites on our 100th day of school. I'll hope to post about those - as well as how I'm doing with the rest of the goals - as we go through the year.

Hope you have a great weekend, too!

  4. I have started working on my list of goals but it's not complete yet. I realized last night, I need to break it down into categories like you've done. I read your books to read list the other day and was excited to find Stepping Heavenward as a free download on iBooks. I have a couple of other books I'm reading right now but it's next on my list after those.

  5. Janet,

I hope Stepping Heavenward speaks to your heart like it does to mine!

    Have a great weekend!

  6. I haven't made a list - I prefer short term goals (eg. weekly or even daily)... But I do have some hopes for this year in mind - I want to try to read more (that goal is going well so far!), sew more for my family and handmake all gifts (not going so well yet), study the Bible more (that's going ok), learn koine (N.T. Bible) Greek (that's going well), and I have one spiritual hope for this year - I hope to become more content.

  8. Clara,

Wow - how neat that you're learning Greek! My reading is going well so far, too. I want to review my goals frequently this year so that I can keep them in the forefront of my mind and hopefully maintain the motivation needed to complete them.
