In the busyness of these days - when the hours seem to fly away and the to-do list seldom gets shorter - do I realize what a responsibility I have in influencing my children for Christ?
What a calling is mine, this nurturing of a human soul. The child whose schoolwork I critique, the one whose constant chatter fills my ears, the ones I hug and kiss good night, could be a Fanny Crosby or an Amy Carmichael. Perhaps you are rearing a Billy Sunday or a David Livingstone.
Let us not give that influence lightly to other caregivers, be they well-meaning adults or seemingly harmless forms of media. We have been given precious lives to guide, infuse with character, teach responsibility, and impart virtues like compassion and diligence.
While who they ultimately become will depend on the grace of God coupled with the choices they make, my days with them now can lay a foundation that will enable them to rise up when Christ calls and follow Him all their lives.
Yes, so true! It's a good thing to keep in mind.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder! In the day to day chores, it's hard to remember that what I do now impacts my children for eternity.
ReplyDeleteIt is a high calling that is immensely humbling. Thankful for God's grace in this and all aspects of my life.
